Innovative instructional design for learning & teaching: my experience

I have used the following SABC reports/videos as an addition to instructional design & also included in learning and assessment of students. Using these South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reports/videos as learning materials in population studies and public health provides a dynamic and contextually relevant resource for engaging students with real-world health issues, demographic trends, and social determinants of health in South Africa. These reports often cover topics such/video as disease outbreaks, healthcare system challenges, health policies, and public health interventions, offering learners up-to-date, practical insights into population health dynamics. By analysing these reports, students can develop critical skills in media literacy, epidemiological interpretation, and public health issues. Furthermore, the integration of SABC content encourages reflection on health equity, community perspectives, and government accountability, thus fostering a deeper understanding of the complex interactions between population health and broader socio-political and economic contexts. This approach supports a more applied and locally grounded pedagogy in public health education.
